Jay Jones talks 2025 and more
According to sources close to Jay Jones, he will be running for attorney general again in 2025. He ran a promising primary campaign against two-term incumbent Mark Herring in 2021 but came up short.
Democrats across the commonwealth are expecting him to run again in 2025.
Today I talked to Jones about that prospect as well as the variety of issues that have come up during Attorney General Jason Miyares’ first 16 days in office.
Some of the topics from our discussion:
Abortion
Covid-19 mandates
Firing OAG employees
Replacing legal counsel at colleges and universities

Also: an update on who the next DPVA might be
In the weeks after Democrats lost all three statewide offices along with the House of Delegates, Democratic Party of Virginia Chair Susan Swecker caught a lot of blame for the losses across the commonwealth.
Multiple names were floated as potential replacements for Swecker, who has overseen the party since before Donald Trump was elected president.
