I talked to Tina Ramirez today about her campaign in Virginia’s seventh congressional district. Ramirez is seeking the Republican nomination to run against Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Henrico) in next year’s midterms.
This is a highly sought-after seat for the Republicans to win back in the House of Representatives after governor-elect Glenn Youngkin (R) won the district by double-digit points earlier this month.
A clear frontrunner in this race is not apparent. Redistricting has a heavy hand in that as state legislators joined the race cautiously while waiting for the new lines to be released.
Ramirez is not remaining quiet, however. She is talking to media and just held a large launch party with hundreds of people in attendance — most notable was lieutenant governor-elect, Winsome Sears.
Ramirez talks about that night and why Sears introduced her in our interview at the top of this newsletter.
I also asked Ramirez about:
Does she think her Republican opponents are making a mistake by not campaigning as loudly as her already?
Does she expect any statewide elected officials to endorse in this race?
Would she have supported either the Bipartisan Infrastructure Package or Build Back Better spending plan in Congress? Spanberger voted for both.
