Merlene talks candidacy
Nicole Merlene (D) is running for an open House district based in Arlington. HD-02 is open with no incumbent in the area after lines were redrawn in 2021. Hailing from Arlington County and the daughter of an Arlington County teacher, Merlene says she wants to bring her knowlege and experience with local policies and issues to the state level.

Aird announces campaign for state Senate
Former Del. Lashrecse Aird (D-Petersburg) announced on Wednesday that she is running for Senate District 13 in Central Virginia next year. The district has no incumbent but a sitting state Senator confirmed Wednesday that they are planning to also seek the Democratic nomination in SD-13.
