In a press conference on Thursday, Todd Gilbert, the current Republican leader in the House of Delegates discussed moving forward now that they have a majority alongside a Republican governor.

Gilbert talks about the GOP agenda and working with Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin, working with Democratic leadership in the House, and the progressive legislation that passed during the last two years that he would like to reverse.

Additionally, Gilbert discusses the run for Speaker of the House. Gilbert was crowned the leader of the Republicans while they were in the minority during the last two years. Now he is making his case to remain their leader to become Speaker. Del. Terry Kilgore from Southwest Virginia is challenging him for that spot, a move he announced shortly after they realized they would have the majority in the House.

“I am going to make my case to the caucus about why I am the best person to lead the caucus forward,” Gilbert said, before noting these are internal matters. “It is a different election with a smaller constituency. I feel confident that I have kept my promises about how I will move our caucus forward.”
