Biburaj talks recall movement and Attorney General Miyares

A Republican recall movement against progressive prosecutors is taking place in many localities across the country— Loudoun County Supervisor Buta Biberaj (D) is one of those prosecutors. She is also often the political target of Attorney General Jason Miyares (R).

She talked about the recall movement and the dynamic with Miyares in an audio interview with Virginia Scope recently.

“You have got some individuals who are messaging that we have pretty much opened up the jails and crime is running amuck and people are dying at every turn … it’s really disingenuous,” Biberaj said of the recall movement against her.

She believes it is being pushed by individuals who are dissatisfied with the 2019 elections, noting that she was elected on the platform she is implementing. “You have got some individuals who are messaging that we have pretty much opened up the jails and crime is running amuck and people are dying at every turn … it’s really disingenuous.”

Biberaj is heavily funded by George Soros’ Justice and Public Safety PAC.

Biberaj and Miyares have been at odds since the 2021 election as Republicans made Loudoun County a key talking point. “We have our attorney general who when he came into office automatically started promoting against us,” Biburaj said.

One of Governor Glenn Youngkin’s first executive actions was to allow an investigation by Miyares into Loudoun County Public Schools.

Miyares recently referred to Biberaj as a “far-left, criminal-first prosecutor,” but she doesn’t believe he has the experience to criticize a prosecutor. Miyares served as an assistant commonwealth attorney in Virginia Beach prior to being elected to the House of Delegates in 2015.

“He does not come from a place of experience,” Biberaj said. “When he is using his political platform to undermine us it is unfortunate because you are creating these floodgates of people to come out after you and say that you are not doing the job where it is not fact-based. As we know right now in our society people are headliners. Like what does a bumper sticker say?“

“His job right now should really be to focus on his job,” Biberaj continued. “What is he doing on the level of what his responsibilities are.”
