Today I talked to freshman Del. Mike Cherry (R-Colonial Heights) about the education agenda being pushed by Governor Glenn Youngkin and Republicans in the General Assembly. Cherry runs a private Christian school in his district.

Cherry talked about his legislative priorities during this session including his work as the chief patron of the bill that will automatically restore voting rights to individuals after they are released from prison. He referenced his work as a pastor making him someone that believes in restoration.

Cherry also talked about the Republican push for more school choice in Virginia and the investment that Governor Youngkin wants to make in charter schools. He also talked about Executive Order 2 and where he stands on the order from Youngkin that says school districts have to make masks optional for their students. He also talks about how his private school was able to make masks optional throughout the entire pandemic because it is classified as a church and not a school.
