Morrissey is trying to subpoena my text messages
State Senator Joe Morrissey sent a subpoena (at the wrong address) to me on Thursday asking for all of my texts between his estranged wife and her family in early February. This was when I was covering the very public accusations his wife made against him.
As a refresher, his wife accused him of giving her an STD while she was pregnant with his child, verbally abusing her, lying to try and keep their kids from her, and a lot more.
Joe released a public statement accusing Myrna of allowing someone close to her to abuse the kids — but the court found no evidence of that being valid.
I assume he is trying to figure out how I knew a judge gave custody of the kids back to his wife when he found no evidence of abuse. Joe asked the judge for a gag order that day, which was granted.
He sent me two subpoenas over a month later — one to appear in court and one to produce any text messages between myself and Myrna and her family.
Joe’s Democratic colleagues in the state Senate were silent while his alleged atrocities were made public earlier this year. I wonder how they feel about journalists’ text messages being subpoenaed — seeing as many of them text journalists — myself included. Quite the slippery slope that would create.
That’s it. That’s the story this morning.
Can you post images of the subpoenas? Are you going to try to quash them?
