Special Session - 2022
The Special Session to complete work on nearly 50 bills and the budget begins today. The House of Delegates and Senate convene at 12 pm in the Capitol.
Republicans in the House believe that Senate Democrats are working to derail their plan to suspend the gas tax in Virginia by not putting language in the procedural resolution that would allow legislators to consider any new bill from the governor.
Youngkin wants to suspend the entire Virginia state tax on fuel for three months to provide some relief from rising gas prices. The governor has also stated, however, that eliminating the gas tax will not necessarily lower prices.
The market controls the price. Business owners that sell fuel could just pocket the extra 26 cents per gallon instead of lowering the prices.
Senate Democrats have not responded to requests for clarification on this move or their intentions.
