Republican Congressional candidate Dan Moy doesn’t want you to “settle for Good” - Charlottesville Tomorrow
by Charlotte Rene Woods
“Don’t settle for good, it’s time for the best,” reads Dan Moy’s website. He is challenging incumbent Representative Bob Good to represent Virginia’s 5th Congressional District.
More than a riff on his opponent’s name, Moy presents himself as an alternative candidate more in line with Glenn Youngkin, Virginia’s governor — calling Youngkin a “blueprint” for Republican success.
Progress reported in state budget talks - WDBJ
By Joe Dashiell
Virginia’s budget stalemate continues, but there are signs of progress. Wednesday afternoon a member of the budget conference committee, Del. Terry Austin (R-Botetourt Co.) told WDBJ7 House and Senate negotiators are very close to an agreement.
Lawmakers left Richmond in March without approving a new two-year spending plan. The majorities in the House and Senate were at odds over how to spend the record surplus, and how much to return in the form of tax relief.
Retired Air Force Colonel Dan Moy hopes to unseat Rep. Bob Good in 5th District - WSET
by Mark Spain
Dan Moy is a retired Air Force Colonel running for the Republican nomination for Congress in Virginia's 5th District.
With respect to inflation, Moy said, "Our people here in Southside and Central Virginia are hurting. 40-year high gas prices, food prices and there are things that we need to do at the national level. I think overall, we have to unleash the economic engine of this country again which is our small businesses. We have to release the stifling regulations that are keeping many of our small businesses and are farmers from being productive."

An investigation is underway after police allegedly dropped off a child at a Virginia mental hospital without waiting for an employee in what the state’s behavioral health agency described as “a very unsafe manner.”
State Sen. Creigh Deeds (D-Bath) and Nelson Smith, commissioner of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), began openly discussing the alleged incident during a Behavioral Health Commission meeting in Richmond on May 17.
After Buffalo massacre RPS superintendent says schools must teach 'divisive concepts' - Richmond Times-Dispatch
by Jessica Nocera
The massacre in which a white gunman stormed into a Buffalo, N.Y., grocery store and killed 10 Black shoppers and employees underscores that schools should teach about “so-called ‘divisive’ concepts,” Richmond Public Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras says.
“Tragedies like this weekend’s are also why we must teach so-called “divisive” concepts in our schools. We need all of our children — of all backgrounds — to understand the full history of our nation so that they can prevent the ugliness of our past and present” from becoming “the reality of our future,” Kamras wrote in his Tuesday evening newsletter.
Racially, ethnically motivated hate crimes increasing in Virginia and across U.S. - WRIC
by Ben Dennis
Hate crimes in Virginia targeting people based on their race, ethnicity and ancestry are increasing annually. According to the latest federal data, those factors also account for a large majority of hate crimes.
The U.S. Department of Justice said 72% of hate crimes in the Commonwealth were ethically motivated in 2020.
VADOC expects ‘immediate surge’ of inmate early releases under new policy - WRIC
by Jackie Defusco
The Virginia Department of Corrections is preparing to release thousands of inmates early when a new state law takes effect this summer.
The new system, which allows certain offenders to earn shorter sentences, passed under Democratic control during a special session in 2020. The goal was to encourage rehabilitation but Republicans fear it will increase crime.
