Senator Bill DeSteph Endorses Glen Sturtevant
Republican state Sen. Bill DeSteph endorsed Glen Sturtevant for the state Senate.
Sturtevant is running against state Sen. Amanda Chase and Tina Ramirez for the Republican nomination in SD-12.
“Glen Sturtevant will serve Colonial Heights and Chesterfield with honor. He has given his life to serve our veterans and serves God daily. He is, in the purest sense, a public servant. It is my hope that he will be given the opportunity to continue that service. The State Senate could use his experience, and Senate District 12 could use his leadership--that is why I am honored to endorse him," Senator DeSteph said.
This district leans Republican according to analysis from VPAP.
Glen Sturtevant says he “whiffed” when voting for Red Flag Laws
Sturtevant explained why he voted in support of red flag laws and why he believes it was a mistake during a recent forum with a prominent gun group.
For context, Sturtevant served one term in the state Senate from 2015-2019. He eventually lost reelection in 2019 to Ghazala Hashmi (D).
His opponents have been attacking him for supporting the red flag laws as he is now running in a more conservative district.
During a recent forum with the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), Sturtevant spoke directly about his vote for red flag laws. (VCDL is the group that is responsible for the orange “Guns Save Lives” stickers.

Youngkin said Friday that the state has collected $111.3 million more in the first eight months of this fiscal year than projected in his proposed budget, which includes an additional $1 billion in cuts to state income tax revenues.
Surovell, Spruill ask if Youngkin has changed rights restoration process - RTD
by Charlotte Rene Woods
mid questions raised by constituents and some Democratic lawmakers, it remains unclear if there have been changes to how restoration of voting rights occurs under Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s administration.
Arina Van Breda, a voter registration director with Fairfax County’s chapter of the League of Women Voters, said she had reached out to the Youngkin administration to see if there were any updates she needed to know. She was curious what the current criteria was for consideration — as people seeking restored rights need to know how to navigate the process.
