Glenn Davis to not seek reelection
Virginia Beach Del. Glenn Davis announced on Tuesday that he will not be seeking reelection to the House of Delegates. He was drawn into the same district as Del. Barry Knight, a powerful Republican in the House.
Spanberger’s statement on the indictment of former President Donald Trump
Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA07) released the following statement after former President Donald Trump received more than thirty felony counts in a criminal indictment Tuesday.
“Every American — including the former President — should be equal in the eyes of the law. As the criminal probe of former President Trump proceeds, I’m closely following developments both in New York City and across the country — and I want to thank the men and women of law enforcement and the U.S. Secret Service for their commitment to safety and order,” Spanberger said. “At this unprecedented time, elected officials across the country must stand for the rule of law. Responsible lawmakers must lead by example and not use these events as an opportunity to stoke anger and division. This moment requires a calm focus on justice.”
Mike Lee & Jim Banks Endorse Scott Parkinson for Senate
U.S. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and U.S. Sen. candidate and current Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) endorsed Scott Parkinson for Senate Tuesday. Parkinson recently announced his candidacy to run against U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine in Virginia next year.
Parkinson made his official announcement for Senate earlier this week.
"I'm a father, husband, and neighbor. And over the past three years, we needed leaders to stand up and fight for our freedoms,” he said during his announcement. “Unfortunately, Tim Kaine fought alongside radical leftists to take our freedoms away and destroy the middle class, prioritize woke ideologies over parents' rights, and enable open-border policies and violent crimes while turning his back on law enforcement causing a public safety crisis. Kaine's leftward lunge began when he joined Hillary Clinton on the ticket as the Vice Presidential nominee in 2016. With nearly 30 years in elected office and nine appearances on the ballot Kaine has lost his way, going from ‘Blue Dog’ to a partisan radical.”
Parkison is a former staffer for Florida Gov. Ron Desantis.
The Democratic Party of Virginia did not hesitate to criticize Parkinson for his ties to Desantis. “Let there be no doubt: Mr. Parkinson is no Senator Kaine,” said Liam Watson, a spokesperson for DPVA. “As Senator Kaine continues to serve as a model Christian and public official, Mr. Parkinson, an ex-DeSantis staffer and Trump acolyte, has railed against the Affordable Care Act and Virginians’ right to choose. Virginians deserve better.”
There are several other Republicans who have said they are running against Kaine next year. Read the full list on VPAP here.
Miyares endorses Pugh
Attorney General Jason Miyares endorsed Hillary Pugh in HD-67. There are currently no Republican or Democratic challengers in this “strong Republican” district. Margaret Ransone would have been the incumbent but she did not seek reelection.
“I’m proud to endorse Hillary Pugh Kent for 67th District Delegate. Virginia needs leaders who will stand with victims, uphold the rule of law, and back the men and women in law enforcement who keep us safe,” Miyares said. “As the wife of a former police officer, Hillary understands that ‘service above self’ guides our men and women in blue. I am confident that she will be a strong conservative fighter and a leader for our shared values in Richmond.”
More AMLER money
Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Rep. Morgan Griffith announced Wednesday that grant dollars are now available to assist those looking to develop projects in southwest Virginia. The Virginia Department of Energy (Virginia Energy) received a sixth round of funding for the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) program. The agency is now taking applications for proposals. Virginia Energy received the initial AMLER funding in 2017 and has continued to receive funding every year since.
“We have big plans for southwest Virginia and this funding is a great way to build on economic successes that are underway and provide opportunity for those with innovative ideas for the economy,” Youngkin said. “AMLER has contributed to projects which are directly improving the lives of Virginians.”
Virginia Energy will accept Letters of Intent through June 2, 2023 and receive applications through July 14, 2023. Applications and information can be found via the Virginia Energy website and should be submitted electronically to Virginia Energy’s AMLER program at AMLER@energy.virginia.gov.
