Spanberger and Luria release new ads attacking their opponents
In VA-07, Rep. Abigail Spanberger released a new ad where she receives the endorsement of Culpeper’s Police chief Chris Jenkins. Jenkins says in the ad that he is a Republican.
Transcript:
I’ve been a police officer for 45 years…
I have spent a lifetime protecting this community…
And I thought I had seen everything…
Until now.
When Yesli Vega, a police officer, said she doubts rape leads to pregnancy
I was shocked.
She bashed the FBI…
And defended those who attacked our Capitol…
That’s just wrong.
I’m a Republican, and I’m supporting Abigail Spanberger…
Because she puts country and community over party.
In VA-02, Rep. Elaine Luria (D), released two new ads attacking her opponent Jen Kiggans (R).
The first ad highlights recent comments from Luria where she would not straight up say Biden fairly won the election
The second ad released by the Luria campaign talks about abortion.
South Carolina Senator Tim Scott filmed a quick video for Vega’s campaign
In an email to her supporters, the campaign for Yesli Vega told them to not listen to the media and instead listen to South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R).
Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy was in Virginia on Monday to stump for both Kiggans (Va-02) and Vega (Va-07).
When asked by Virginia Scope, both the Spanberger and Luria campaign said that there are no plans for Pelosi to come and campaign in their districts.
“No matter how many times Jen Kiggans says the Speaker’s name, there are no current plans for her to appear in VA-02,” said Jayce Genco, a spokesperson for Luria.
Millionaire’s tax? New brackets? Virginia set to weigh proposals for fairer taxes - WRIC
by Jacob Kordes
Tax Brackets in Virginia haven’t been substantially updated since the 1990’s, but a new report to the General Assembly suggests legislators tackle the issue head on in their next session.
The report, titled “Options to Make Virginia’s Individual Income Tax More Progressive,” was presented by the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission (JLARC) at a public hearing on October 17. “There’s no question in my mind that this is gonna be a topic we’re gonna wrestle with during the upcoming regular session,” said Senator Janet Howell (D-Reston).
Democrats see opening to neutralize GOP education messaging - Politico
By JUAN PEREZ JR. and ZACH MONTELLARO
A year after Republicans rode a wave of discontent about education to flip Virginia, Democrats see an opening. Competitive governors’ races have already attracted tens of millions of dollars in campaign ads from both parties focused on everything from school shootings, education funding and accusations of hypersexualized and overtly political curriculum.
Some Democrats have now seized on GOP polling and previously unreported voter research that suggests the conservative rush to attack history lessons and library books is failing to connect with a majority of likely general election voters — and may even be alienating some persuadable moderates and independents.
Filings show Youngkin’s PAC raising, spending more than predecessors - Washington Post
by Laura Vozzella
Gov. Glenn Youngkin continued to raise and spend political cash at an unprecedented pace over the past three months, as the potential Republican presidential candidate tapped big-dollar donors and paid hefty sums to consultants, ad-makers, strategists and speechwriters.
A former private equity executive and political newcomer who put $20 million of his own fortune into last year’s gubernatorial race, Youngkin became the object of 2024 White House speculation the moment he won the Executive Mansion in seemingly blue Virginia. And now the money is flowing.
