The Virginia Senate Democratic Women’s Caucus announced their endorsement of Lashresce Aird (D) as she primaries state Sen. Joe Morrissey (D) for the SD-13 seat in the state Senate.
Sens. Mamie Locke (Caucus Chair, Senate Democrats), Louise Lucas (President Pro Tempore), Janet Howell (Co-Chair, Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee), Barbara Favola (Chair, Senate Rehabilitation and Social Services Committee), Jennifer Boysko, and Ghazala Hashmi are all endorsing Aird.
“Morrissey has a long history of being on the wrong side of the values that matter to Virginia Democratic voters,” the group wrote in their endorsement statement. “His public behavior has, for years, drawn attention to himself rather than the needs of his constituents.”
“At this pivotal moment in our Commonwealth where we have a clear choice about the course of our future, there is no more powerful statement of support than this collection of women. It is an honor to have my candidacy affirmed by these trailblazing public servants who I deeply respect,” Aird said in a statement Wednesday. “Today’s unprecedented endorsement truly signifies the stakes of this primary election. During Joe Morrissey’s tenure in the Virginia Senate he has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of care and concern on a number of core Democratic values, but in particular on abortion. This issue is not up for debate. The voters of SD-13 deserve a real Democrat and I vow to be a Senator they can be proud of.”
