McDougle explains why he is pushing homicide bill
In case you missed it yesterday, I covered Sen. Minority Leader Ryan McDougle, R-Hanover, pushing legislation again this year that would create a felony homicide charge for fentanyl or heroin dealers if they sell drugs that result in an overdose.
McDougle explained in a comment Wednesday why he is pushing this legislation again this year.
“Under Virginia law, if you share drugs with someone and they die, you can be charged with felony homicide. Yet the dealer who sells the drugs and walks away isn’t held accountable for that death,” he said. “We are committed to fixing this injustice and ensuring accountability for those who harm families across the Commonwealth.”
