Rep. Spanberger’s Statement on VA-07 Republican Primary
Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA07) released the following statement ahead of the VA-07 Republican primary results Tuesday.
“As the Representative for Virginia’s Seventh District, I have been proud to respond to the issues facing Virginians by working across the aisle, being accountable to the people I serve, and getting things done. Together, we passed a bipartisan infrastructure law that is already delivering long overdue support to Virginia’s roads, bridges, and additional infrastructure projects. But we still have a lot of work ahead.
“In Congress, I remain focused on cleaning up Washington, addressing supply chain disruptions, winning the competition with China, supporting our veterans who have faced toxic exposures, advocating for our rural economies, and strengthening our communities. And amid high inflation, I am committed to lowering the cost of prescription drugs, gas, and groceries here in Virginia for our families and seniors.
“Regardless of who wins tonight, each of my potential Republican opponents has proven to be far too extreme and has failed to offer any kind of plan to tackle the problems facing Virginians. Instead, they have all promised to criminalize a woman’s right to choose and destroy the right to privacy, dismantle the Affordable Care Act, and pander to mega-donors and the gun lobby — rather than protect our families and law enforcement with commonsense gun violence prevention proposals.
“Virginians will have a clear choice this fall. I look forward to debating the issues with my opponent and winning reelection.”
Beyer wins primary in VA-08
Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA08) won the Democratic nomination to seek reelection again in November. Beyer faced a primary challenge from Victoria Virasingh. He won by roughly 55% of the vote.
Rep. Beyer released the following statement Tuesday:
“I am grateful to voters in Northern Virginia for again making me their Democratic nominee to represent Virginia’s 8th District. Their trust in me is humbling, and I will continue to do all I can to earn it. I want to thank Victoria Virasingh for her spirited challenge, and for her commitment to progressive ideals we both share.
“Here in our region and across the country we face a stark contrast between those who believe in building a strong and equitable economy, protecting our democracy, confronting the threat of climate change, making health care and housing more affordable, protecting Americans from gun violence, and protecting a woman’s right to choose, and those who do not. This is a challenging moment for the Democratic Party, and I look forward to throwing myself into that fight and making the case for equality, shared prosperity, and progress.”

Terry Namkung won the Republican nomination in the third congressional district to face Rep. Bobby Scott (D) in November.
