Planned Parenthood responds to the governor’s budget amendment that would ban Virginians who are eligible for Medicaid from receiving funding to end pregnancies with severe fetal diagnoses
Planned Parenthood responds to the governor’s budget amendment that would ban Virginians who are eligible for Medicaid from receiving funding to end pregnancies
“Shame on Governor Youngkin for proposing this cruel and discriminatory amendment to the budget. People facing complex and tragic circumstances surrounding pregnancy, like a fatal fetal diagnosis, deserve our compassion and support – not shame and funding restrictions that put necessary abortion care out of reach,” said Jamie Lockhart, the Executive Director for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia. “Wealthy women, and others with financial resources who can become pregnant, will always be able to end a pregnancy after receiving a fatal diagnosis. This amendment will disproportionately impact people of color who will be forced to carry pregnancies that will result in a stillbirth or in the birth of a baby incompatible with life. If this funding is cut, low-income Virginians will be the ones having to go without access to the life-saving health care they need. For legislators voting on Friday afternoon: Virginians are watching. If you support this amendment, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia will make it known that you believe Virginians with low incomes should be forced to carry pregnancies fraught with suffering.”

SD-10 Republican candidate wrote a long letter to his supporters recently that explains why he is running while also bashing Democrats with common talking points.
Dyer is seeking the Republican nomination in the open district against state Del. John McGuire and Louisa Supervisor Duane Adams. This is a heavily Republican district according to an analysis from VPAP.
Here is the full letter from Dyer:
I’m running for Senate in the 10th District because I am tired of the radical left’s serious intrusions and divisiveness into our communities. Change must happen to secure a solid future for our children and grandchildren in Virginia that we, ourselves were blessed to grew up in. For nearly four years, Democrats in the Senate have passed legislation to make our streets less safe, our taxes higher, and stifle job creation.
I began working in building construction at around 5 years old helping my father build onto our home. My first paid job was when I was 13 when I began working as a construction laborer during summers. From there, I worked my way up every rung of the ladder, and now serve as Chairman of the Board for Gulf Seaboard General Contractors. I am proud of what we have accomplished as a company, and the thousands of jobs that I have participated in creating for hardworking Virginians.
I am also gratefully blessed for the opportunity and most proud of the accomplishments I have made working together with others in our community. I have coached hundreds of recreational soccer, basketball, and baseball players. I helped build, from the ground up, the Patrick Henry YMCA while serving on the Board for over 20 years and a term as Chair, served many years as a Board Member and Chair for the Ashland Youth Soccer League and the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club. My professional expertise, allowed me to serve as a Board Member and Chairman for many years for the Virginia Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation (DPOR) Board for Contractors and I have been both chair and on the board of many Construction Industry Associations.
And most cherished, I have raised my children, and now am watching my grandchildren grow up in Hanover County.
However, the politicians in Richmond are failing us and taking Virginia backwards. Just this session, the Senate was a roadblock to tax relief for hardworking Virginians, they have passed legislation that creates regulation after regulation on folks who are trying to create jobs. Career politicians continue pushing “Green New Deal” standards which are increasing the cost of construction for businesses, homeowners, and even Virginia’s localities - I have seen it first-hand.
It doesn’t stop there, they have also passed legislation to water down education in our schools, loosen penalties on violent criminals, and push a far out of the mainstream agenda that puts everyday Virginians at risk and deprives them of opportunity.
I’m running to restore common sense governance. I believe we should be lowering costs - not raising them, putting violent criminals in jail - not releasing them, and we should be giving our kids the best education possible - not watering it down for ‘equity.’ The Senate MUST be taken back by a Republican majority who will restore common sense. Failure here is not an Option for the future of our Virginia!
In Office, I will put Virginians before the causes of left-wing billionaires and stand up for our values, not run from them. The Senate is in play and the Republican nominee in the 10th district will help set the tone for taking it back. I have a proven record of creating jobs and getting results as a CEO and am ready to take my common sense, conservative approach to Richmond.
Your support is critical in ensuring my campaign will be successful. Together we can make a difference in taking back our Virginia! I humbly ask for your support of my campaign. Please join me in securing conservative values in the 10th district.

Sincerely,
Jack
