Youngkin announced the latest appointments to his administration
Winter weather is coming
Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared a State of Emergency ahead of a winter storm that is coming to Virginia Sunday night.
The latest forecast shows snow and ice accumulations across the commonwealth.
Sean Sublette provided these predictions Saturday afternoon:
“I’d go with 2-4 inches of snow in Richmond, with a couple of inches more north toward Ashland. Perhaps an additional inch or so on top of that farther north toward Fredericksburg.”
Sublette also says there is a chance that Richmond could land in the sweet spot and receive 8-12 inches.
“There is still a distinct possibility that Richmond could find itself in the sweet spot — meaning 8 to 12 inches of snow,” he wrote on his Substack, which you can subscribe to here. “I do not think we are there yet. But if the data are sending the same message by Saturday afternoon, that may be the final call.”
Youngkin is not taking any chances on being unprepared and declared a State of Emergency Friday afternoon.
“I am declaring a state of emergency for the incoming winter storm currently forecasted to impact Virginia starting Sunday, and I’m encouraging all Virginians, visitors, and travelers to stay alert, monitor the weather forecast, and prepare now for any potential impacts,” Youngkin said. “Given the current projected size of the storm, if your post-holiday travel plans have you leaving Sunday, I encourage you to adjust those plans to leave on Saturday. If you find yourself needing to be on the roadways, please heed any warnings and make sure you are keeping yourselves and others safe. Our pre-treating preparations are underway and substantial state and local resources will continue to actively monitor the forecast and respond through the weekend.”
Attorney General Jason Miyares also announced that Youngkin’s announcement has triggered Virginia’s anti-price gouging statutes.
Items and services covered by these protections include, but are not limited to, water, ice, food, generators, batteries, home repair materials and services, and tree removal services. The basic test for determining if a price is unconscionable is whether the post-disaster price grossly exceeds the price charged for the same or similar goods or services during the ten days immediately prior to the disaster.
Violations of Virginia’s Anti-Price Gouging Act are enforceable by the Office of the Attorney General through the Virginia Consumer Protection Act.
