The budget is halfway there
The Republican House of Delegates and Democratic state Senate adopted competing budgets on Thursday. They are not the same which means the work is not done as both chambers will need to adopt an identical budget for the next two years.
The House followed along with Governor Glenn Youngkin’s main campaign platform items, but the Senate didn’t provide as much tax relief that the governor and Republicans are seeking. Democrats instead invested more money into public education.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch wrote up an article explaining where the differences between Republicans and Democrats lie. Both chambers passed the budgets with bipartisan support.
Who is who in VA-02
Virginia’s second congressional district received an unfavorable redraw for two-term Rep. Elaine Luria (D) during the redistricting process last year. Donald Trump won the 2016 election within the district’s new boundaries by 5 points.
Now Republicans are anxious to try and flip the seat and take back the majority in the House of Representatives during congressional midterm elections later this year.
