"Senator Stella Pekarsky and Delegate Adele McClure championed legislation this year that would have banned junk fees in Virginia. The Richmond Times-Dispatch called their proposal “the most sweeping consumer protection measure to emerge in this year’s General Assembly session.” Unfortunately, the legislation failed to make it out of the General Assembly because deceptive corporations fought tooth and nail to block it at the expense of hardworking families.”
Youngkin pins Purple Heart on a Virginia soldier who was injured in Iraq 18 years ago
Gov. Glenn Youngkin pinned the Purple Heart onto SPC Timothy Britt Jr. in Richmond Wednesday afternoon. Britt Jr. was wounded in combat 18 years ago while serving in Iraq.
President Joe Biden awarded Britt Jr. the Purple Heart earlier this summer, and as a Richmond-area resident, he received it from the governor on Purple Heart Day.
“The weight of a Purple Heart is something that is beyond understanding,” Youngkin said Thursday. “It is humbly, a moment that I have not had as governor — to award this to you and to recognize that the demonstration of your character doesn't require a medal. Doesn't require an honor. You demonstrated it the day you put your hand up and said send me. But it is also a clear, important step for us to acknowledge and recognize your amazing sacrifice and sacrifice of your family. So it is my great privilege to award to you today the Purple Heart.”
