Morrissey responds to radio ad question
VA-04 Democratic candidate Joe Morrissey held a press conference Thursday afternoon and he criticized Democrats for what he believes they are doing to rig the firehouse primary for another candidate. He also addressed the radio ad encouraging Republicans to vote for him in the firehouse primary. The ad is narrated by conservative talk show host John Fredericks. Fredericks is a strong Trump supporter who believes the 2020 election was stolen.
The ad is below:
Morrissey responded to a question from Axios’ Ned Oliver on Thursday about the ad.
“John Fredericks doesn’t speak for me, he doesn't manage my campaign. I’m not paid any money, he’ll do what he wants,” Morrissey began by saying.
After being asked about the “Paid For” bit at the end of the ad crediting Morrissey, he addressed it.
“I have to pay for that because the federal regulations require that,” Morrissey said.
He then addressed the contents of the ad that encourages Republicans to vote for Morrissey in the Democratic primary because he is “pro-life” and a “fiscal conservative.”
“I think the Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents all should be outraged by what the Democratic Party did. It is hypocrisy at its greatest. So I do, I want everybody to come out and vote. When I represent people and I help them solve problems, I dont ask them [whether they] are a Republican or a Democrat. Did you vote for me or not vote for me. I help everybody.”
Morrissey is running against Jennifer McClellan who has received support from the biggest names in Virginia’s Democratic Party. The firehouse primary is Tuesday.

“But we Republicans, we can vote for him. Get out and vote December 20th for Joe Morrisey. Sign their stupid pledge – it means nothing – and stick it to them. Then on February 21st you can vote for whoever you want.” - John Fredericks.
Is that what Tom Jefferson had in mind when he signed up to "mutually pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor"? It used to be, not so long ago, that when a Virginian pledged his word, he could be counted on to keep that pledge. Now, according to Mr. Fredericks, it's just words - say whatever they ask you to say, just to get what you want. This is how deeply Trumpism has stained the Old Dominion. Sad.
