A look at the Roanoke poll showing Harris up in Virginia
Roanoke College released a poll conducted by the Institute for Policy and Opinion Research Tuesday showing Vice President Kamala Harris leading former President Donald Trump in Virginia. This is good news for Virginia Democrats, as the previous poll from Roanoke showed a tie between Trump and President Joe Biden before he dropped out of the race.
Virginia being in play, as Republicans have been saying, is somewhat of a shock to political observers who saw Democrats make huge gains across the commonwealth during Trump’s presidency. Democrats took control of both chambers of the General Assembly in 2019, and Biden won Virginia by 10 points in 2020. But, Biden's high disapproval rating (62%) gave Republicans confidence and Democrats anxiety for 2024.
However, momentum has been growing for Democrats since Biden dropped out and Harris became the nominee.
