EMILYs List backs Virginia candidates
EMILYs List announced Tuesday that they are supporting several candidates during Virginia’s 2023 legislative election cycle. All 140 seats in the General Assembly are up for election this November.
“During a pivotal time in Virginia’s history, when many surrounding states are aggressively banning abortion and extremist Republicans within Virginia’s state legislature are attempting to restrict reproductive health care further, it has never been more important to support our Democratic pro-choice state senators and delegates who are working hard every day to protect the rights of Virginians,” EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler said. “EMILYs List has full confidence in each of these women’s demonstrated commitment to continue doing just that, and we are proud to endorse them for reelection today.”
EMILYs List endorsed the following slate of Democratic candidates for reelection:
State Sen. Louise Lucas, in SD-18. Lucas is running against Sen. Lionell Spruill for the Democratic nomination.
State Sen. Jennifer Boysko in SD-38.
State Sen. Barbara Favola in SD-40. She is facing a primary challenge from James Devita.
Del. Kaye Kory in HD-13. Del. Marcus Simon is also in this district. Both are Democrats.
Del. Michelle Maldonado in HD-20.
Del. Shelly Simonds in HD-70.
Del. Delores McQuinn in HD-81. She is running against Terrence Walker for the Democratic nomination.
Primary day in Virginia is June 20.
