A new ad from DGA aims at Youngkin’s Medicaid Expansion comments
The Democratic Governors Association is releasing a new ad Thursday aimed at Glenn Youngkin and his comments on healthcare and Medicaid Expansion in Virginia.
“Glenn Youngkin is an out-of-touch millionaire who has no idea the life-changing difference that policies like Medicaid expansion have made for Virginians,” said DGA Communications Director David Turner said in a press release. “He’s spent the entirety of his campaign mimicking Donald Trump and pushing an extreme and unpopular agenda that would hurt working families. Virginians have seen this agenda before and have demonstrated time and time again that they won’t stand for it.”
Medicaid Expansion is a sensitive subject in the Republican Party. It helped provide healthcare for hundreds of thousands of people in Virginia with at least 90% of the funding coming from the federal government. Even as it has gained popularity in recent years, the conservative facets of the Republican Party still despise it.
Medicaid Expansion was a key issue that prevented former House Speaker Kirk Cox from gaining momentum in his bid for the Republican gubernatorial nomination this year. He was the Speaker of the House and helped pass the legislation in 2018.
Youngkin spoke out against Medicaid Expansion while campaigning for the Republican nomination and it appears the Democrats are not going to let him forget those words. This new ad comes after the Supreme Court voted today to uphold the Affordable Care Act.

"We know that former Governor McAuliffe is a strong leader with the courage to take on the gun lobby and advance gun violence prevention measures that make Virginia’s communities safer. If elected to another term, he will lead the fight to make Virginia a leader in gun safety and protect Virginians from senseless gun violence.”
