Cox releases a closing campaign video and Ted Cruz endorsed Glenn Youngkin
The latest in Virginia politics.
Welcome to Monday. There is less than one week until convention delegates across Virginia will turn in their ranked-choice ballots to choose a nominee for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general.
Later today, subscribers will receive my latest interview with Shaun Kenney, the former executive director of the Republican Party of Virginia.
Kirk Cox releases a closing video in the last week of campaigning for the GOP gubernatorial nomination
"One party Democratic control has torn down so much of what we've built in Virginia. It’s time for Republicans to get back in the game," Cox says in the video. "There’s a reason George Allen, Bob McDonnell, Morgan Griffith and five hundred local leaders have endorsed our campaign: proven leadership. You know, Democrats have thrown a ton of mud at me over the years—that’s just what they do. But I’m still standing. And together, we’ll bring Virginia home."
Ted Cruz endorses Glenn Youngkin for governor
“Glenn is pro-life. He’s a gunowner. He’s a defender of religious liberty,” Cruz said. “If you've ever spent time with him, you know that he's the real deal. A Christian, a family man who has his priorities straight, and a guy with common sense.”
McClellan Addresses Affordable Housing Needs in Sterling March - Loudoun Now
by Patrick Szabo
Residents affected by the high cost of living in Loudoun raised their voices this weekend and asked state senator and gubernatorial candidate Jennifer McClellan about the housing crisis.
About 30 New Virginia Majority supporters on Saturday—International Workers’ Day—marched from Sterling Plaza to a field behind Sterling Elementary School to demand county officials invest in affordable housing and rent relief programs. According to a statement from the group, 39% of Loudoun households making 30-50% of the area median income spend more than half of their monthly income on rent.

There are four obvious leaders in the seven-person field, but beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess who’s most likely to win.
“It’s the most difficult race to handicap imaginable,” said veteran political commentator Bob Holsworth, pointing to the GOP’s plan to employ ranked-choice voting and a system that weights delegates’ votes based on the partisan leanings of their home locality.
Roanoke's Del. Sam Rasoul, a lifelong problem solver, focuses on Democrats' rural woes - Roanoke Times

Southwest Virginia is deep red, and so it’s rare these days to see Democrats elected to higher offices venturing out this way. The people who showed up figured this would probably be the only time a Democrat running for statewide office would make an appearance in Buchanan County.
“They tell me there aren’t a ton of votes out here, but they are strong votes,” said Rasoul, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.
