Brewer’s swing to the right for the nomination battle could come back to impact her general chances
In what happens every election cycle, a candidate says one thing to please their base during a nomination battle that could come back to hurt them during the general election. The latest nominee to deal with this issue is Del. Emily Brewer, a Republican running in a highly competitive state Senate district.
During an interview with John Fredericks in June, just days before her primary election against Hermie Sadler that she eventually won, Brewer expressed support for Donald Trump, a highly unpopular figure in Virginia.
Fredericks often asks Republicans about their support for Trump as he has been one of his biggest supporters in the commonwealth and insists that the 2020 election was stolen.
Fredericks asked Brewer if she would support Trump in 2024. “If you win on Tuesday, are you going to be in a position to make an endorsement for President Trump?” he asked.
