Brewer receives McDonnell’s endorsement but another Republican figure in Virginia politics appears to be gearing up for a primary run against her
State Del. Emily Brewer announced Monday that former Gov. Bob McDonnell has endorsed her campaign as she seeks the Republican nomination in state Senate District 17. Her potential primary opponent also commented on the endorsement to Virginia Scope and provided an update on his potential plans for a campaign.
McDonnell was the governor of Virginia from 2010 to 2014. "Emily is tireless in her longstanding work of electing Conservative candidates and supporting Conservative causes. As a Member of the House of Delegates, she has shown passion and toughness in successfully advocating for Life and our constitutional values," McDonnell said. "In the Virginia Senate, she is the majority maker we need to enact needed conservative reforms for more prosperous communities. She has my full endorsement."
Brewer has served in the House of Delegates since she was first elected in 2017. She represents HD-64 currently but the lines have been redrawn and she is running for a new state Senate seat where there is no incumbent. Del. Clint Jenkins (D) is seeking the Democratic nomination.
There are rumors that a potential Virginia Republican figure is considering a run for the same nomination as Brewer next year.
