VA-07: Who is running against Spanberger
The seventh congressional district is almost completely new after the redistricting process moved it from the Western Richmond suburbs up to Prince William County. Two-term Rep. Abigial Spanberger (D) decided to run in the new seventh even though she is based in her home town of Henrico, which is no longer in the district. She is not required to reside within the district that she represents, however, and no Democrats chose to challenge her for the nomination.
The new district will be friendlier to Spanberger than the old seventh. She will need Democrats to show up, however, with national headwinds pointing towards a rough midterm election cycle for Democrats as President Biden’s approval rating remains low.
Democrats are aware and are getting involved early to keep her in Congress. The Prince William Democratic Committee is hosting a weekend of action for the congresswoman in early March.
With no Democratic nomination challengers for Spanberger at this time, these Republicans are stepping up to challenge her in the new district.
